ABOUT CHIROPRACTIC

Chiropractic is a field of the healing arts that believes that good health and wellness depends upon a healthy performing nervous system, especially the spine and the nerves extending from the spine to all parts of the body. Chiropractic emphasizes that the source of many diseases begins with the body's inability to make environmental adjustments. It looks to deal with these ailments without drugs or chemicals, instead by locating and adjusting the musculoskeletal region of the body that is not functioning correctly.

The conditions that chiropractors treat are as diverse as the nervous system itself. Chiropractors use a customary examination practice to diagnose and arrive at a course of treatment; utilizing the same traditional manner of consultation, case history, physical exam, lab analysis and x-ray examination as any other physician.

The spinal evaluation is what makes a chiropractor different from other health care providers. The spinal column is a series of movable bones that go from the base of the skull to center of the hips. Thirty-one pairs of spinal nerves extend from the brain down the spine. These nerves depart the spine and form an intricate network that affects all living tissues in the body. There are countless factors that can result in irritation to spinal nerve roots, including falls, stress, overexertion, and physical accidents. Reducing or eliminating spinal nerve irritation enables your body to operate more efficiently and more comfortably.

While chiropractors make no use of drugs or surgery, they do refer patients for additional medical care when those interventions are indicated. Today, chiropractors, medical doctors, physical therapists and other health care providers now work together as partners in occupational health, sports medicine, and rehabilitation practices.
